rAVe Publications: Rayva Releases New Acoustic Wall Treatments for Home Theaters

rAVe Publications: Rayva Releases New Acoustic Wall Treatments for Home Theaters

announced Thursday the availability of the company’s new (and patent-pending) acoustic wall panels for home theaters. The unique collapsible panel design eliminates challenges and costs associated with traditional options. Rayva reduces the time, effort and expense of acoustic wall panels to a home theater by shipping the panel’s wooden frame deconstructed and the fabric coverings premade to fit precisely over the panel using a proprietary internal tightening system. Acoustic Fabric Installs Like a Fitted Bedsheet (with Tighteners) The frame, which can be ordered from Rayva in any dimension, can be constructed entirely at the job site with nothing more than the screws (included) and a screwdriver. A precut piece of acoustic fabric fits over the frame like a bedsheet. A series of metal pulleys attach to the edges of the frame and turnbuckles on the inside of it stretch the fabric taut, creating a perfect, fabric wall panel, free of wrinkles and gaps. The panels attach to the walls of the theater via a magnetic rail, quickly covering pre-installed acoustic absorbers, diffusers and reflectors. New Design Cuts Construction Costs The patent-pending panels are available now with any of Rayva’s pre-engineered home theater offerings. Customers can order them in a variety of shapes and dimensions to suit the acoustic needs of the space. LED lighting elements can also be added and the fabric itself is available in a variety of colors and designs. Fabrics Are Easily Swapped Out Should the acoustic treatment’s fabric get damaged or should the home theater style/color scheme change, new fabric can be easily installed to swap out the old one. Here’s a video with more information and a demonstration of the construction process:

Connected Design Magazine: Cortex VIP Cinemas & Rayva Parade their Expertise in Luxury Theaters

New York City’s Dolby Screening Room was the venue in early November for home cinema system specifier Cortex VIP Cinemas and producer of ready-to-assemble home theaters Rayva to bring tech media up to date on their latest activities and then, later in the day, to showcase their capabilities and service menus in front of some prominent integrators. “We’re not a normal vendor. We’re a partner and a resource for dealers and designers,” said Cortex’s principal, John Russell. He described how his company partners with dealers to custom configure ‘experiential luxury’ theaters for homes, yachts and even planes based on the individual space, and then provide concierge-style 24/7 monitoring services for those systems – all with a quick turnaround. The company specializes in using Dolby’s CP850-C audio processor as anchor for its Dolby Atmos configurations. “We provide dealers with the ‘engine;’ the dealers build the car,” said Russell. They do not install- unless the dealer asks for an assist. “We don’t do room acoustics or interior design – we just build the electronics that run the room” and handle final calibrations once all the elements are in place. Russell opined that the topic of home theaters is the best place to start a conversation with consumers about the benefits of a full connected home: “Cinema created the custom installation business. Everyone understands what a home theater is and as a frame of reference, that’s an easy way to start the sales process.” Russell added that dealers, when they grasp the business model being promoted, come to a realization that “subcontracting out a part of their business is smart. They don’t have to deal with eight different companies; just with us.” But, he adds, “we don’t want to replace the dealer’s relationship with the client. We’re really good at what we do, and are more efficient at it, due to repetition.” Rayva, for its part, used its presentation slot to tout its model of services to integrators, which includes providing ready-to-assemble, prepackaged systems that include the theater’s acoustics and most of the room’s aesthetic elements. “We’re converting what was a science project into a simple product: an integrated, turnkey home theater,” explained Rayva President George Walter in talking up the firm founded by renowned custom integrator Theo Kalomirakis.  Walter was joined at the event by Rayva CEO Vincent Bruno. (The photo is of Cortex’s Russell and of Rayva’s Bruno.) The pre-engineered theaters consist of rail-mounted, highly magnetized panels that constitute the theater shell. They come in several stylistic flavors and size configurations and address not merely electronics and speaker needs but also seating and acoustics. Walters pointed to the importance of proper acoustics. “Ninety percent of all theaters don’t have acoustic treatments, and speakers sound twice as good in a properly treated room.” Rayva is broadening its approach to address growing consumer interest in health and wellness, and is contemplating offering Rayva “Wellness Rooms” as a design option, where clients can practice mindfulness and yoga in what the company is calling a “virtual outdoor simulator,” complete with noise isolation, circadian lighting that illuminates the space depending upon time of day, and images of nature synched with soothing audio. It is also looking at offering less expensive, smaller room options with as few as four seats. Rayva believes that the market out there waiting to be served by this type of home theater deployment is vast and, by their account, “only 10 to 15 percent of [potential] clients have been touched,” said Walter. “We feel we can bridge that gap and make the technology very approachable.” read more here

The Alliance will bring similar branded solutions to market that will be announced as they are available. Rayva Wellness Rooms With the global wellness market expected to reach upwards of $72 billion by 2023, Rayva believes there is a big opportunity for integrators to capitalize on the trend by providing wellness rooms and related products and services. Addressing this trend, Rayva will present wellness room solutions and discuss related opportunities in a kiosk within the Wellness Pavilion, Kiosk 550. Rayva’s wellness room acts as an outdoor simulator, combining immersive sound and video with proper room acoustics. Residential wellness rooms can be designed to incorporate yet minimize visible tech in such a way that maximizes health benefits, while also serving double-duty as an entertainment room as needed. Visit Rayva in the Wellness Pavilion to see how the company connects integrators with homeowners, architects, interior designers, and builders. Moving Beyond the “AV Guy”

May 27 2019

Moving Beyond the “AV Guy”

How Rayva helped Brilliant AV differentiate, create a high-performance space, and step up its game for home cinema. It’s a competitive landscape out there when it comes to winning jobs for AV integrators. Steve Stary, Vice President of Sales at Brilliant AV in Costa Mesa, California, knows this all too well. He experienced it recently in a home in Newport Beach with a commanding view of Newport Harbor and Balboa Island. Steve was bidding a project he was referred to by a friend. The client already had other bids from two local high-end companies in the area and was also talking to the builder’s ‘AV guy’. The client decided he didn’t want to pay the expense associated with the ‘high-end’ integrators, so it was down to the AV guy and Brilliant AV. “The contractor was set on using his guy, and due to the lack of differentiation between us and him in the client’s mind, we lost the job,” says Steve. “The client said, ‘I like you Steve, but every tech guy I talk to is telling me something different, so I’m just going to have to trust my contractor on this one’.” The very next day Rayva visited Brilliant AV’s office to show the company its new concept for home theater. “I had no idea what Rayva was, but I do know I had just offered a bid for a home theater, so it peaked my interest.” As soon as Steve saw what Rayva had to offer in terms of turnkey home theater design, he knew it was exactly what the homeowner who had declined his bid was looking for. Steve went back to the homeowner and showed him the materials that Rayva had left behind. The client called the ‘AV guy’ and asked him more informed questions after having seen Rayva’s design layout, such as why did you put the speakers here? The AV guy’s response was “because that’s where they go.” In contrast with Rayva’s carefully detailed drawings, Steve was able to differentiate himself and won the job. “If the client was going to spend money, he wanted to know for sure that he was going to get results. Neither the AV guy nor I could give him the confidence he needed without taking a design deposit and spending the time required to prepare a design. It was about way more than ‘just trust me.’ Rayva helped us give him that confidence,” says Steve. That’s partially because Rayva helps bridge the gap from theory to something tangible that the client can wrap his or her head around. They can look at Rayva’s theater offerings and say I’ll have one of those. “Until then, the best thing we could do was tell clients to go on Houzz and show us some designs they like. And that’s just not how we want to do it,” Steve adds. By winning the job, Brilliant AV essentially won the whole house as conversations about the theater extended to other rooms. The house is constructed as one enormous 50-by-30-foot great room and kitchen, with the theater right off the great room.  To fill it all with sound, Brilliant AV used DSP-controlled Sonance speakers in the ceiling flush with drywall and no enclosures, as well as Sonance Sonarray speakers throughout the patio, sunken barbecue, pool, and courtyard. To get sound that was evenly distributed throughout the home and outdoor areas, Steve focused on the quantity and placement of speakers. He installed three pairs of speakers in the back half of the great room, so you have sound coming out of various areas and therefore don’t have to crank it loud to hear it. The same philosophy goes for the outdoor areas, where, in order to keep the sound from getting into neighbors’ yards, Brilliant AV installed more speakers. For example, where an overhang might have two speakers, Steve installed six—one every six to eight feed so they don’t have to be turned up loud. In the end, the client is thrilled with the choice he made in ‘AV guys’ and, with a little help from Rayva, a lot of innovative thinking and expertise, Brilliant AV has proven to be so much more than that. “In the end, the client had to buy more speakers, but he can actually use them without having to crank them or argue with his neighbors,” says Steve. The speakers are fed with a Sonos music system and everything is controlled via a Control4 home automation layer. According to Steve, Sonos is not the typical high-end approach for a CEDIA-channel dealer, but the simplicity of it combined with the flexibility of the Control4 system allows anyone to play music with no learning curve. The Control4 system also interfaces to the thoughtfully designed Lutron lighting system, which includes Homeworks and Lutron EcoSystem–enabled light fixtures—which is basically a control method for LEDs that addresses individual fixtures and allows status feedback from the LED drivers. “The lighting design really makes this room. There is no trim on any of the fixtures between the beams in the vaulted ceilings,” says Steve. “Because they are EcoSystem addressable, they can dim down to one percent. There are also recessed addressable fixtures for artwork, tabletops, and spots. It’s beautiful.” The performance of the audio and lighting in the main part of the house is echoed in the theater itself. Not only was Brilliant AV able to give homeowners the modern, fresh, non-traditional look of the Rayva ‘Scenes’ theater, it was able to differentiate on the rooms performance, especially the audio, which comprised a top-of-the-line Integra receiver and KEF speakers in a Dolby Atmos 9.4.2-channel configuration. “It’s mind-blowing how fantastic the theater sounds. It sounds way better than I ever thought it was going to and better than I’ve ever heard the KEF speakers sound,” says Steve. “I have used these speakers many times and knew they would sound good, but they were tighter, clearer, and more detailed in this environment.” The Brilliant AV team knew it had something to do with the carefully engineered Rayva acoustic panels when it tried the speakers before and after the panels went up. “Getting this level of acoustic accuracy would typically cost more and be a lot of engineering work,” Steve adds. Likewise, the video system performs like a champ, with an affordable Sony 4K projector shining onto an acoustically transparent Screen Innovations 16:9 screen. “We know in five years the homeowner will probably want to upgrade to an 8K projector, so we didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the video system,” says Steve. “But the video quality is spectacular, we have 4K, and the brightness and screen size are perfect for the room.”

Case Study: BriarCliff Manor’s 3-Day Theater

Case Study: BriarCliff Manor’s 3-Day Theater

Elevated Integration installs a Rayva Origami dedicated home theater in Westchester in under a week. It’s been said that dedicated home theater is on the decline. Rayva argues that this is because it has traditionally been inefficient, inaccessible, and unapproachable to homeowners, architects, interior designers, and even integrators themselves. The company has also made it its mission to fix that. Nick DeClemente, a 20-year industry veteran and Founder & CEO of Elevated Integration (Westchester County, NYC, the Hamptons) experienced this philosophy in action when, about 12 months ago, he embarked on one of the first Rayva theater installs. As a member of Azione Unlimited, Rayva was referred to fellow Azione member Elevated Integration, known for being a sophisticated and “high service” integration company in the way it operates, with a bespoke approach that was a good fit for Rayva. The homeowner had already worked with Rayva executive director Theo Kalomirakis to select the Origami theater design and map out the level of performance and options that he wanted. Rayva brought Elevated Integration into the project to provide last-minute equipment recommendations for the theater and do the actual installation. “Rayva really set the client’s expectations to understand that we could not only do the theater and meet their high standards, but that we could also help with the rest of the client’s needs,” says Nick. “When I met the homeowner, we were then able to work under the assumption that we were doing the job of installing the rest of the technology in the home. Rayva created an opportunity not only to install the theater but to provide the technology solution for the rest of the house, which in this case was a totally new client!” The home owner was excited about the potential for really high-performance audio and video throughout his home. “We installed three pairs of KEF Reference in-walls powered by Parasound Halo amplifiers, full 4K60 fiber distribution for video, and an INSANE 7.1 Coastal Source Elipsa Bollard 3’s with five additional 14.0 subs and something in the neighborhood of 7000 watts around the pool,” says Nick.   The system also included an extensive Lutron lighting system, plus automation and control by Savant. Sources including Savant Music 2.0, ROON, Kaleidescape, Tivo, and AppleTV, and a reference-level two-channel listening room. With the addition of the Rayva theater above the garage, Elevated Integration gave the homeowner a virtual technological playground with different areas to retreat for different purposes, whether it’s watching a movie, listening to a record, background music throughout the house, or enjoying his favorite content outside by the pool. “Rayva is getting opportunities that we wouldn’t necessarily come across because it’s a different stream. So our partnership with Rayva is producing projects that are profitable, ones that we would not have had if we had not been working with them,” says Nick. “We in turn now put Rayva at the forefront of our pitch because they are supporting their dealers by bringing opportunities to us.” The biggest upsides of installing a Rayva theater, according to Nick, is that it’s a packageable, predictable, profitable, and repeatable endeavor as compared to the dedicated home theater’s of the past. “Rayva delivers truly high-end results from both a performance and aesthetic perspective. The complexity that typically comes with a dedicated theater finished to the the level of a Rayva theater has pushed people away. I can now easily predict how long the next one is going to take. The process is predictable and repeatable. Those two things allow you to budget more tightly and accurately predict completion, which leads to a better experience by the client and more profit for us.” Acoustic and lighting panels are preconfigured and shipped onsite, then installed with ease. “Prefab lighting and acoustic panels come ready to go and are easy to hang. The complexity that it would take to build this stuff from scratch onsite is staggering, and what Rayva has done is spectacular. They have realized a level of sophistication and performance and made it attainable by guys that are not carpenters or builders . . . on a timeline that is unheard of.” Indeed, this particular theater took less than a week to construct, install, and finish. Nick says that if his team was not so meticulous, it could be completed in as little as three days! The acoustic and lighting panels are just one example of how Rayva makes installation easy. Nick also references the theater’s starlight fiber optic ceiling. “I built one for my daughter’s room from scratch. It’s a cumbersome process to say the least, you have to deal with long fiber optic cables. Rayva’s was as simple as hanging acoustic panels on the ceiling and connecting a CAT6 wire to the panel, and we were done. It’s a total departure from how complicated they normally are.” Because Rayva theaters are applied and don’t involve a lot of construction to the shell of the room itself, it makes them good options for historic homes or homes where the owners are reluctant to alter the structure of the room. While this particular theater was installed in a newer part of a historic home, Nick says that if he was “going to put this in the historic part of the home, it would be no problem because everything is applied. Sound panels are applied and no special construction is needed.” In fact, that modular, applied approach allowed the homeowners to maintain the windows in the room. Rayva designed sound panels based on the window layout. The sound panels actually clip off the wall if access is needed to the windows and to ensure safe access to exits in the event of a fire. Traditional roller shades are installed on the other side of the panels, so it looks completely normal from the outside. One would never know what lies behind the shades—just what the homeowner had hoped for. As one of Rayva’s first installs, Nick and Elevated Integration helped Rayva with streamlining some of its early processes. He says that unlike some manufacturers in the industry, Rayva was absolutely willing and comfortable adjusting their process to better facilitate a smoother process and better end result. “For example, there were things they did originally, like specifying equipment, that they have now given back to the integrator realizing that it’s a better business model for both them and the integrator. I give them huge credit for listening and responding to feedback.” That fluidity has also allowed Rayva to develop, in conjunction with integrators like Elevated Integration, tools to help better suit the integrator. The Rayva Build Book, which is like a simplified instruction manual for installing the theater, “brings the level of the technician you have to have on-site down,” according to Nick. Elevated Integration is currently participating in Rayva’s new Premiere Dealer program, which gives them access to special tools and marketing opportunities such as a co-branded version of Rayva’s new online Configurator tool, which makes it easy to design a Rayva theater with the proper room specifications. Elevated Integration will use this tool to specify a new Rayva theater that’s in the beginning stages. How does the client feel about the project? According to Nick, he is incredibly happy. “It’s really impressive what we were able to pull off.”

Rayva Launches Three New Programs to Support Dealer Channel

Delivering all the tools dealers need—including a Premier Dealer, Showroom Purchase, and Installation Support programs—Rayva makes home theater easier than ever to sell and support.   NEW YORK, NY (November 15, 2018)—Ravya, supplier of engineered and fully personalizable turnkey home theater environments, has introduced three new programs for dealers which are already receiving extremely positive feedback from the channel. Rayva’s new programs—including Premier Dealer, Showroom Purchase, and Installation Support—make it easier and more profitable than ever to sell and support home theaters. “We’ve been listening to dealers and are excited to provide programs that are based on their feedback on making selling home theater even easier,” noted George Walter, president of Rayva. “What’s especially exciting is that dealers are sharing with us that through these new programs they’re inspired again to sell home theaters. It’s neat to see the channel responding with such positive feedback!” Premier Dealer Program The Premier Dealer Program offers advanced tools and support for its Premier Dealers. The company has invested in the development of these customized tools and marketing collateral that will help better position home theaters for the dealer’s clientele. Participants in the Premier Dealer Program get access to a Cobranded Version of Rayva’s Online Configurator Tool, which makes it easy to select and specify a Rayva theater via an intuitive step-by-step process that utilizes CEDIA industry standards to determine acoustics, optimal viewing criteria, seating, and the appropriate screen size for the chosen space. The co-branded Configurator reflects the Premier Dealer’s choice and pricing for Bronze, Silver, and Gold Rayva packages, includes optional password-protected entry, logo, and the dealer’s choice of up to six different seats and pricing. A personalized Customer Info page prefills the dealer’s name and address. Under the Premier Dealer Program, participants will also receive Rayva’s Design Booklets, a Premier Dealer Listing on the Rayva Website with a link to the dealer’s website, and Social Media Promotion by Rayva targeted at high-net-worth individuals within 50 miles of the dealer’s location is also included for the first three months. Showroom Purchase ProgramRayva is now making selling its theater packages easier than ever thanks to its new Showroom Purchase Program that gives dealers the option of installing a Rayva Home Theater design in their own showroom. This includes room drawings, acoustic elements, and lighting. Dealers simply provide the space (no greater than 20×12 feet), their own electronics and seating, and Rayva does the rest, including installation. Under the Showroom Purchase Program, Rayva will rebate the dealer $5,000 for each theater sold through the showroom to a maximum of the original dealer cost, which varies based on package selected. “There is no tool more successful in selling than giving the customer an experience he or she will never forget. Sitting in a Rayva theater, surrounded by incredible interiors, immersed in the best possible audio and video, does just that,” says Walter. “This new program gives dealers the opportunity to purchase and install a Rayva theater that can truly end up paying for itself!” Additionally, Rayva delivers extensive marketing support to promote the dealer’s new showroom, including a grand opening party, public relations, and promotion to the local community, Rayva Brochures, and promotion to be undertaken by Rayva itself, including website and social media advertising. Additionally, those enrolled in the Showroom Program will enjoy all the benefits of a Premier Dealer, outlined above. Installation Support Program The new Installation Support Program provides dealers with the option to have Rayva personnel onsite for support during its initial installations, for no charge. Rayva will travel to the job site and assist with the installation to make it even easier for dealers to deploy a Rayva theater and ensure the end result will provide an exceptional entertainment experience. About Rayva Rayva is the world’s first provider of complete, turnkey, engineered, home theaters of exceptional quality and performance. Limited edition designs by world renowned artists curated by Theo Kalomirakis are unique to Rayva. Rayva Receiving Overwhelming Support for New Offering and Bring Your Own Gear (BYOG) Approach to Theater Design and Specification

Rayva Receiving Overwhelming Support for New Offering and Bring Your Own Gear (BYOG) Approach to Theater Design and Specification

Integrators appreciate the ability to specify equipment they know and trust to deliver turnkey Rayva theaters while Interior Designers applaud Rayva’s unique approach to home entertainment rooms NEW YORK, NY (October 31, 2018) —By way of compelling demonstrations and one-on-one time with the Rayva team, AV integrators and interior designers are seeing firsthand how Rayva—a supplier of engineered and fully personalizable turnkey home entertainment solutions—makes home theater simple with its new offering and simplified approach to the category.   Rayva Turnkey Theaters — An entirely new approach to home entertainment One of the more notable aspects of Rayva’s new offering is that the company now allows dealers to specify the gear used in a Rayva theater to be from brands they know and trust. These products are then paired with Rayva’s custom curated interior designs, acoustical packages, and engineering documentation to complete the package. Dealers determine the installation price and execute the project. Rayva’s team is available throughout the process to help dealers sell and support Rayva solutions. ‘BYOG’ makes it easy for integrators to offer, install, and support Rayva Theaters That’s because dealers now have the freedom to select the products they know and trust to integrate into a Rayva system, so long as they are within the performance requirements of the selected Rayva package. Rayva affectionately calls this their ‘Bring Your Own Gear’ (BYOG) approach, which gives dealers the flexibility they need to deliver expected performance, maintain valuable relationships with suppliers, while making it simple to deliver a premium experience to their customers. “Rayva’s concept is so simple,” says Steve Stary of Brilliant AV. The model they’ve created and the addition of BYOG makes it easy for integrators like Brilliant AV to get back into the home theater category but in such a way as to present a product to our customers and not a convoluted, time consuming, and expensive project. It’s a straightforward approach that just simply works. To be honest, our firm just wasn’t selling home theaters until Rayva came along.”   Combining technology, art, and design Rayva combines state-of-the-art technology with Executive Director Theo Kalomirakis’ curated line of proprietary interiors, acoustic specifications, and engineering and design accessories. With 12 designs now available and more being developed, dealers can easily provide clients with performance packages that meet their needs and interiors that meet their style. An enlightening addition to the Rayva offering, the new Light Edge interior features modular acoustical panels with inlaid LED lighting that can be changed to suit the mood or decor and which eliminates light scatter l around the room. Rayva dealers have the unique ability to capitalize on this, especially given lighting has become a leading trend in both the AV and design industries. Light Edge joins the complete lineup of Rayva theaters like Shapes, Movement, Origami, Pulse, Soundscapes, and more, all available as out-of-the-box solutions that are ready to rock in any residence. “Family movie night is big in our world,” says Toni Sabatino of New York-based interior design firm, Toni Sabatino Style. “As Rayva demonstrates, now, a home theater can be hidden in plain sight, integrated into your family room, or anywhere you want to show off all your cool AV gear.” Equally impressive are Rayva’s acoustical treatments, which are both modular and truly plug-and-play. Integrators simply order their Rayva theater using the company’s new online Configurator tool, which makes it easy to select and specify any of the available designs that easily meet a range of needs and budget. An intuitive step-by-step process that takes all of 3 minutes to navigate, the Rayva Configurator utilizes CEDIA industry standards for acoustics and optimal viewing criteria to optimize seating and establish the appropriate screen size for the chosen space. Once approved by the client, dealers simply order their Rayva theater and prepare the space, sourcing gear they want to order directly from their vendors. The different aspects of the theater Rayva supplies for each project are delivered in kits to the job site where installed with out-of-the-box ease, offering a fast, easy solution that is both repeatable and profitable. Reinforcing the value of relationships and partnerships Rayva is working closely with Origin Acoustics, Barco Residential, Stewart Filmscreen, Josh.ai, Kaleidescape, Fortress Seating, Audio Control, [insert other brands here] to deliver a truly memorable entertainment experience. “Together, Rayva and its AV partners make home theater far more simple and fun for dealers to sell and support,” concludes Stary.   About Rayva  Rayva is the world’s first provider of complete, turnkey, engineered, home theaters of exceptional quality and performance. Limited edition designs by world renowned artists curated by Theo Kalomirakis are unique to Rayva home theaters. These designs, engineering, and acoustics make Rayva home theaters easy for integrators and home technology professionals to sell and install. Rayva’s customizable home theater solutions remove the barriers of complexity and the unknown to create an exceptional experience that brings families closer together through the magic of movies, sports, concerts, and video games. Learn more at www.rayva.com and follow @RayvaTheaters or @RayvaHomeTheaters on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to stay up to date on the Company and its offering.
